Earnote is a free, open-source (MIT) app for Mac and iPhone that records lectures, meetings and calls, transcribes them locally with Whisper, and writes structured notes on device. There is no account, no subscription and nothing is uploaded to the cloud.
On Mac (macOS 15+, Apple Silicon) you can see a live transcript while recording microphone and system audio together. On iPhone and iPad (iOS 26) it can record with the screen off. Notes include summaries, topics, flashcards and a PDF study sheet. Install via download, the App Store, or Homebrew.
